The Electric Confectionaires are a four-piece from Auckland’s North Shore whose sound is heavily influenced by music of the '60s and '70s, particularly the Beatles, the Doors, the Kinks and Funk Brothers.
This is often reflected in their choice of instruments, favouring vintage gear such as '73 Ludwig drumkits, Juno keyboards and Wurlitzer pianos.
The band also frequently uses distinctive and complex arrangements of close-harmony vocals, honed by barbershop quartet and choral singing during their schooldays.
The band originally formed while studying at Takapuna Grammar School on Auckland's North Shore.
Shortly afterwards the Confectionaires entered and won the 2005 Smokefree Rockquest, a nationwide competition for New Zealand high school students which featured free recording of a debut album as a first prize.
The album, Sweet Tooth, was released in late 2007 through SonyBMG.
